He then hears Clive is engaged to marry Anne Woods. When he returns to England, he tells Maurice again he has become "normal," though Maurice is skeptical. ![]() ![]() While there, he writes Maurice to say he is now "normal" and no longer loves men. They begin careers: Maurice a stockbroker, Clive a lawyer.Ĭlive travels to Greece alone. Their relationship is not sexual, and they avoid speaking of love. They have a joyous final year at Cambridge and then travel to Italy together. During summer vacation, Clive convinces Maurice to apologize and thus be reinstated at Cambridge. As a result, Maurice is suspended the next day. Maurice and Clive skip lectures to ride through the countryside on Maurice's motorcycle. After three unhappy weeks apart, Maurice climbs into Clive's bedroom window. When Clive declares his love, Maurice rebuffs him.
